We decided to head on to Kandy and what better way to travel than by local bus.
The cost of a driver to Kandy was 8000 rupees which worked out to £40. As I don’t let us get taxis in London that seemed like crazy money when we could get the bus for 50p each.
We went first to Dambulla and then changed and jumped on the bus to Kandy. Yes it was a bit noisy and slow but the windows were open, the smell of woodsmoke filled the air and with Sri Lankan music playing and the sound of homs honking, it was an ambiance hard to match!
We arrived into Kandy in the early afternoon and soon found ourselves at the colonial Royal Bar and Hotel to ring in the New Year with a cup of tea.
